Other Common General Surgeries
Our General Surgery department is equipped to handle a wide range of essential surgical interventions. While we prioritize minimally invasive techniques, we maintain high-level expertise in traditional open surgeries to ensure the best outcomes for complex medical cases.
Thyroidectomy
This procedure involves the surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid gland. It is a critical treatment for various thyroid conditions.
- Indications: Performed for thyroid nodules, goiters, hyperthyroidism, or thyroid cancer.
- Precision: Our surgeons take extreme care to preserve the laryngeal nerves (which control the voice) and the parathyroid glands.
Colon Resection (Open Colectomy)
For certain bowel diseases or large tumors, an open colon resection is performed to remove the diseased section of the large intestine.
- Purpose: Effectively treats severe diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), or colorectal cancer.
- Reconstruction: The remaining healthy ends of the colon are reconnected (anastomosis) to restore normal bowel function.
Gallbladder Removal (Open Cholecystectomy)
While most gallbladder removals are laparoscopic, an "open" approach is used if the gallbladder is severely inflamed, scarred, or if the patient has had previous abdominal surgeries.
- Decision: Switched to open surgery during the procedure if the surgeon determines it is the safest route for the patient.
- Reliability: Provides excellent visualization and access in difficult anatomical cases.
Conventional Hemorrhoidectomy
Reserved for the most severe cases (Grade 4) or for external hemorrhoids where stapling techniques (MIPH) may not be appropriate.
- Process: The surgeon makes incisions to remove the excess hemorrhoidal tissue.
- Outcome: This is considered the most effective long-term treatment for preventing recurrence in severe cases.
